EDUCATION
What is plantar fasciitis?
Plantar fasciitis is a very common pain at the bottom of the heel. Most patients feel the pain with the first step in the morning or after extended periods of sitting/driving. Cause - The cause is usually some combination of tightness of the foot and calf, weakness of the foot, improper athletic training, or stress on the arch of the foot. The plantar fascia is designed to maintain strain and stress from load impact (running, sports, walking). When there is too much pressure, the tissue can become damaged or even tear. This initiates a inflammation response causing heel pain. Patients with flat feet or high arches have a great risk of injury to the fascia.
